- This small rocket launcher toy was marketed as based on the popular "Captain Video and his Video Rangers" television show, which aired via the DuMont television network from 1949-1956. It was the first science fiction adventure show on TV.
- Several "Captain Video" toys and comic books were produced during this period. In September 1951, it was announced that the Lido Toy Company, New York City, were manufacturing a range of plastic Captain Video toys. The bases for this rocket-launching toy both have the "Captain Video" logo printed on them.
- Collector Michael O'Harro donated this toy set to the Museum in 1993.
