- The steps in the Apollo Command Module heat shield manufacturing process are illustrated in this demonstration sample provided to the Smithsonian by its manufacturer. The model shows the various production stages, beginning at the right with the substrate material, several coatings, a honeycomb supporting structure, a cell-by-cell filling with resin, and subsequent coatings and curing.
- The model, along with a sample of actual heatshield, were provided to the Smithsonian in 1975.
