- Early passenger locomotive, the "Pioneer," built in 1851 for the Cumberland Valley Railroad Company of central Pennsylvania. It regularly pulled three and four-car passenger trains at speeds of 40 mph. After being damaged in a raid by J. E. B. Stuart in 1862, it was repaired and continued to be in use until 1901. Curator John H. White and secretary Mary S. Chroniger are checking the final installation of the "Pioneer." This exhibit is part of the Hall of Rail Transportation in the Museum of History and Technology, now the National Museum of American History.
