Object Details

Description
Bell-shaped coffeepot with double-domed, hinged lid topped by a cast urn knop on four, cast, splayed legs with pairs of rosettes, a pendant drop and bellflower, and D-shaped feet. Sides of body are flat-chased with a geometric-patterned, diamond-and-fan motif encircled by holly-type leaves with an eight-petaled flower below and dot-and-wavy-line band with pendant triangles and oak-type leaves above; die-rolled bands of paterae at rim and base. Hollow, angular handle and S-curve spout have a similar stylized anthemion or palmate design on their faces and diaper patterning at bases. Body perforated at spout. Underside of flat bottom struck incuse "ROCKFORD / SILVER PLATE CO." in sans serif letters encircling balanced scales with "6" and "QUADRUPLE" above and "960" below; "2/6/8" scratched faintly to upper right and "REM" engraved upside down below. From a three-piece coffee or tea service, 1982.0114.01-.03; coffeepot is a different pattern than the sugar bowl and creamer.
Maker is Rockford Silver Plate Co. of Rockford, IL, 1882-1956. Successor to Racine Silver Plate Co. of Racine, WI, 1873-1882; became Sheets-Rockford in 1925.
