Over the past 25 years, the Environmental Protection Agency's Superfund program has cleaned up 966 hazardous waste sites across the United States. The 21 photographs on view capture some of the people, places, and projects of the Superfund program. The Superfund program was created by the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act of 1980, which mandated federal cleanup of the nation's uncontrolled hazardous waste sites.
